Cody Johnson Is Tired of Artists Whining About Not Being Nominated for Awards
Cody Johnson was on his way to a tour stop with Justin Moore this past February when the 2019 ACM Awards nominees were announced. He didn't have much time to pay attention to the actual announcement, but the "On My Way to You" hitmaker couldn't help but notice the reaction from some of his fellow country artists who were not nominated.
"I feel like a lot of guys my age in this industry spend a little too much time whining about what they don’t have," Johnson tells Taste of Country, referring to some tweets he noticed from other singers after nominees were revealed. "They spend a little too much time looking at the success that the other guy has and they get jealous rather than focusing on what they can do to get further on their own."
This Version of Cody Johnson's "On My Way to You" Is Amazing!
"Those are the kids that get pissed off because they didn't get a participation award," the Taste of Country RISERS rising star says. "Just being honest."
Johnson's thoughts seem square on his own career and adding to the accomplishments he's already achieved in 2019, including having the number one debut with his first major label release, Ain’t Nothin’ to It. Of course Texas native says he would welcome an ACM nomination somewhere down the line, but swears he would never be that guy to publicly complain about not getting one.
"It would be great to be nominated for something, but I'm not going to hinge my success or my confidence or my happiness on whether I do or whether I don't," Johnson confirms.
After a triumphant performance at the Rodeo Houston on March 15, Johnson is set to return to the road on Thursday (March 21) in Atlanta.
