A special school board meeting took place on October 13 held by Superintendent Carl Dethloff. The main topic of conversation: renaming Robert E. Lee middle school and its cost.

In this meeting, they addressed everything:

  • Replacing all athletic and band uniforms
  • Replacing all the signs around the school
  • Replacing the logo in the gym.

And after adding all it up, the total came to, $74,068.00 according to gosanangelo.com

Now they also said this is in the budget, they could pay for this at no cost to the tax payers.

They also discussed potential new names for the school including:

  • Tom Green Middle School
  • Mesquite Middle School
  • Concho Valley Middle School
  • Barack Obama Middle School

The whole idea for a name change began in June after the death of George Floyd and riots took place across the country.

The school held an online survey open to the public on whether or not to change the name, and the decision is expected to be made sometime next week.
