Now that Cassadee Pope has shared the news that she is releasing a new album, the singer has revealed a powerful new single off of the upcoming project. Readers can press play above to hear Pope's newest track, "If My Heart Had a Heart."

In "If My Heart Had a Heart," Pope passionately sings about how, if her heart knew what it was doing to her, it would stop being so cruel. The singer laments that, if her heart understood how it was making her, feel maybe it would just leave her alone. In the song's chorus, Pope lets her emotions pour out:

"If my heart had a heart, it would go on and leave me alone / It'd stop having a mind of its own / Let me forget you and let me let go," sings Pope. "It would stop hanging on / It would finally put this to rest / Instead of putting this stake in my chest / Oh, no, it wouldn't tear me apart / If my heart had a heart."

Throughout "If My Heart Had a Heart," Dan +Shay fans may recognize the background vocalist: Shay Mooney lent his voice to Pope's new tune.

"If My Heart Had a Heart" is one of 11 songs on Stages, Pope's forthcoming sophomore album. The record is due out on Feb. 1, and Pope says Stages as a whole reflects a vulnerability and openness that she's wanted to address in her music for a long time. She wants to share her story with fans, even -- and, perhaps, especially -- the parts that aren't happy or pretty.

"It's gonna be a big, revealing story," the singer explained in November. "The whole record is just telling the things that have happened over the past year and a half: the good, the bad and the ugly. Fans are gonna get to know me a lot better."
