2016 has been a year of tremendous female empowerment in country music, making the choice for Woman of the Year in the 2016 Taste of Country Fan Choice Awards that much more difficult.

Carrie Underwood has had another record-setting year, touring behind her latest hit album Storyteller as well as scoring four new hits singles from the project, all while dealing with being a first-time working mom. Dolly Parton has also been back on the road for her Pure & Simple Tour, which has drawn rave reviews, while Jennifer Nettles not only released new music, she provided a star turn in Parton's ultra successful Coat of Many Colors TV movie.

Miranda Lambert bounced back from a hard period personally with the searingly confessional "Vice," and announced an innovative double album, while Brandy Clark solidified her position as one of country music's great singer-songwriters in 2016. Kelsea Ballerini may be the heir apparent to Taylor Swift if she stays on the road she's on, while Maren Morris came from out of nowhere to take the country world by storm in 2016.

Jana Kramer capped off a difficult period in her personal life with an inspirational run on Dancing With the Stars, showing that the newly-single working mother can overcome any adversity life throws her way.
