When the world’s greatest cowboys and cowgirls descend upon the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex in March 2014, the Professional Bull Riders’ top men will be there to show Dallas what bull riding is all about.

THE AMERICAN, the single largest one-day cash prize event in the entire history of rodeo, is inviting the Top-10 athletes in each of the traditional rodeo sports, as well as the Top-10 bull riders from the PBR, to compete in the inaugural event, which debuts one day after the PBR’s Iron Cowboy V and offers a $2 million total purse – the largest in the sport’s history.

With the best Western athletes in the world converging on AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys, to compete in the PBR Iron Cowboy V and THE AMERICAN, March 1-2, 2014 will be a two-day weekend showcasing some of the most talented, toughest, grittiest athletes Dallas has ever seen.

“Dallas is in for a spectacular time next March,” said Jim Haworth, chairman and CEO of the PBR. “On Saturday [March 1] the PBR will highlight its top athletes on the rankest bulls in the world to determine which man has the strength to go head-to-head with the bulls AND the other bull riders in our bracket-style, single-elimination event.

Then on Sunday, the PBR’s Top-10 riders will return for THE AMERICAN, vying for their slice of the $2 million payout in this historical debut event.  Between the best men competing in the toughest sport on dirt and the richest rodeo in history, fans will be in for a rare treat.”

Rural Media Group President and CEO Randy Bernard is a co-founder of THE AMERICAN for RFD-TV.

“RFD-TV is very excited to showcase one of the greatest American sports and traditions next year at AT&T Stadium. THE AMERICAN will be the largest, richest one-day rodeo ever,” said Bernard. “In my opinion, this has a chance to change the landscape of rodeo forever and is way overdue.  THE AMERICAN will be spotlighting the best of the best Western sports athletes in the country, therefore the PBR had to be included. With PBR Iron Cowboy V and THE AMERICAN going back to back, this will be a highly-anticipated and well-remembered weekend for rodeo and bull riding fans.”

“We are honored to host this event and the PBR Iron Cowboy V at AT&T Stadium, home of our Dallas Cowboys. Since we opened the doors in 2009, there have been some hard-fought battles between some of the toughest athletes in the nation. It’s only fitting THE AMERICAN Rodeo continue the legacy of entertainment and culture in one of the nation’s premier sports venues,” said Stephen Jones, Dallas Cowboys Chief Operating Officer.

Tickets for THE AMERICAN and PBR Iron Cowboy V go on sale Monday, Sept. 16, with prices ranging from $20 to $150. They can be purchased at the AT&T Stadium Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745 3000.
