Formerly titled 'Almanac,' 'Welcome to Yesterday' is the mysterious project greenlit by Paramount to be produced by Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes based on a 2012 Blacklist script from Andrew Stark and Jason Pagan. Details on this found-footage, sci-fi film were kept under wraps for quite some time, but now the first 'Welcome to Yesterday' trailer has revealed the first footage and details.

In the trend of found-footage documentation, made "hip" again by Josh Trank's superhero film with a twist, 'Chronicle,' 'Welcome to Yesterday' sees a group of teens (again in a found-footage-styled story) stumbling upon secret plans to build a time machine. The film definitely echos back to 'Chronicle' in that these teens document their power binge and the ultimate consequences of doing so -- in this case, it's the "Butterfly Effect."

We've been getting a lot of found-footage movies lately -- 'The Devil's Due' takes the cinematic styling to the horror genre with a story on an expecting mother carrying the son of Satin, while the 'Paranormal Activity' franchise continues its trek with Latino spinoff 'The Marked Ones.' Also coming up is 'Earth to Echo,' a film about which we know very little, though on first glance is the love child of 'Chronicle' and 'Super 8.' Frankly, its brief teaser, which reveals little, is more appealing than the first footage from 'Welcome to Yesterday,' whose first impression evokes a predictable story trajectory.

'Welcome to Yesterday' features a batch of newcomers: Amy Landecker, Sofia Black-D’Elia, Ginny Gardner, Jonny Weston, Sir Maejor, Patrick Johnson, Gary Grubbs, Allen Evangelista, Anthony Reynolds and Alexandra Bartee. The film is scheduled for release on February 28, 2014.
