Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ is hosting a 5K run event on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at Middle Concho Park.  The event will unite local Christian churches, members, and the local community for the run appropriately named, United Forerunners for Christ.  The event, which will include a 5K run and a 1 mile fun run and walk, will begin with an opening procession of San Angelo ecumenical clergy.  Pre-registration for the event is open through April 5.  Late registration will begin the day of the event at 7:30 am.  The Opening March is scheduled to begin at 8:30 am with run and walk activities beginning at 9 am.  Local Christian churches are being urged to sponsor and participate in the event.  More information regarding Church sponsorship, business sponsorship, and individual registration can be found by visiting:  www.miracletemplecogicsanangelo.org

The idea of the 5K run came from the joint efforts of Angelo State University Professor, Dr. Leslie Y. Rodriguez and the Pastor of Miracle Temple COGIC, Johnny “Jackie” Allen.  “It’s an opportunity for all followers of Christ to unite in fellowship,” said Pastor Allen.  The event is unique as it is being coordinated by Public Relations students from Angelo State University who are currently working through Angelo State University’s CONNECT! program.  This program seeks to engage students, faculty, and staff on campus with the local, regional, national, and global communities to enhance student learning and better serve the San Angelo community.  Dr. Rodriguez stated, “This class project is beneficial to my students as it allows them to apply what they have learned in the classroom to a real world experience.  This hands-on experience will allow them to develop the skills that are necessary in the profession they are pursuing while giving back to the community.”   The Public Relations course is being offered through the Communication and Mass Media department.
