The bad news is, most of those diet "fads or tricks," don't actually work. The good news is, the most effective weight loss method, does work. It may be the hardest, but simply eating less food is the best way to lose weight.

According to Marilynn Marchione, chief medical writer for the Associated Press, you need to start with changes in the kitchen.

Use smaller plates, and narrower glasses. It may sound silly but it can really make a difference, if you let it.

Try for a neat kitchen, free of food on the counter except for maybe a fruit bowl. Keep it filled with all your favorites. That should make for healthier snacking.

You can also re-do your refrigerator so that healthy foods are up front at eye level. You may be surprised how much this will help.

Try eating all of your meals at a table instead of in front of the TV. That's a tough one for me, but it makes sense.

When you have to eat out don't "super size" portions. You really don't need all those "extra" calories.

Try these tips for a while and perhaps you'll be making good choices and down-sizing your weight before you know it. Remember, practice makes perfect! Keep it up for a year and you should definitely see results.

Hey, it beats exercising!
