PITTSBURGH (AP) — A North Texas woman who saved an elderly motorist from drowning during flooding is among 20 people being honored with Carnegie medals for heroism.

The Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Hero Fund Commission announced the winners Wednesday.

The honorees include 26-year-old Krystal Ashley Salazar of Burleson, Texas. Officials say Salazar saved a 76-year-old woman from drowning after her car was caught in a flash flood in November 2015.

A Massachusetts man who died saving a waitress from being stabbed by a mentally ill man is another winner. Authorities say 56-year-old George Heath saved a waitress at a restaurant in his hometown of Taunton, Massachusetts, in May.

The Carnegie Hero Fund Commission is named for the late steel magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.
