SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A San Antonio plastic surgeon must serve more than three years in prison and repay nearly $3 million in a tax evasion case.

Dr. Anthony Sertich Jr. was sentenced Monday by a federal judge in San Antonio. The physician in March was convicted of tax evasion and 10 counts of failure to truthfully account for and pay withholding taxes.

Records show the 60-year-old Sertich failed to pay employee withholding taxes from 2008 through 2010. Sertich since 2002 had accrued more than $2.9 million in unpaid payroll taxes, penalties and interest.

Investigators say Sertich instead paid himself millions of dollars in salary and used the money for personal expenses such as a mortgage and alimony payments.
