Remember When Sugarland Visited ‘Sesame Street’?
Sugarland are one of country music's most popular duos, but they became a trio for a very special performance on TV's Sesame Street.
"Songs are around whenever you need them / Songs follow you wherever you lead them / Songs, they seem to come alive each time you sing them / Songs, you can play them straight or you can swing them," the duo sing, with Nettles and Bush alternating lines as Elmo nods along, interjecting every so often to agree with the lyrics.
The beloved children's character takes his own vocal turn in the second verse, while Nettles and Bush snap their fingers and sway along. Elmo's obviously no kinda country singer, but there's a certain undeniable charm as he sings, "Songs, when you're up, when you're down / Songs are the best friends around / You can't go wrong / All you need is a song."
The Sesame Street appearance was part of the promotional activities for Sugarland's second album, Enjoy the Ride, and Elmo wasn't the only outside vocalist they were working with at the time — Nettles joined Bon Jovi for a track called "Who Says You Can't Go Home" that appeared on the iconic rock group's Have a Nice Day album, and reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.
Nettles and Bush are currently focused on solo albums, since Sugarland went on hiatus following the birth of Nettles' son in 2012.
