SNAPS, a citywide photography contest coordinated by the City’s Public Art Commission that’s meant to celebrate San Angelo, is accepting entries through March 1.

Themed “Through the Lens: San Angelo,” the new contest is open to all photographers and will be judged by Ben Sum, an associate professor of art at Angelo State University. The winning entries will be exhibited May 16-18 at the Coop Gallery at 427 S. Oakes St., adjacent to the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts.

Entries must be submitted on a CD in a jpeg format in high resolution (300 dpi). The CDs must be labeled with the photographer’s name and the number of works. The entry fee is $10 for two images and $5 for each additional image up to a total of five photos. The CD, entry fee and entry form must be delivered or mailed to the City of San Angelo’s Parks and Recreation Department at 702 S. Chadbourne St., San Angelo, TX 76903. Entry forms may also be picked up at the Parks and Recreation offices in Santa Fe Crossing at the same address. Mailed entries must be postmarked no later than March 1. Checks should be made payable to the City of San Angelo – Public Art Commission.

The first-place winner will receive $150, second place $100 and third place $50. Merit awards will also be presented.The seven-member volunteer Public Art Commission advises the City Council on the selection and placement of art on City-owned or -controlled property.
