San Angelo Police Department S.W.A.T. Team members find deceased suspect inside a north San Angelo residence on Saturday after an ongoing double homicide investigation.
On Saturday, January 11, 2014, at approximately 12:00 p.m., members of the San Angelo Police Department's S.W.A.T. Team attempted to execute a Search and Arrest Warrant for Jesse Fitchett (DOB 04-02-88) of San Angelo, at a residence in the 100 block of W. 8th Street.  Fitchett was alleged to have fatally shot two men and injure another man in an altercation just before 2:00 a.m. that same morning in front of Richard’s Bar, located at 1218 Martin Luther King Blvd.  The SAPD’s Hostage Negotiations Team also responded to the scene with the department’s Mobile Command Center.  Patrol officers assisted with maintaining an outer perimeter in an attempt to keep vehicle traffic out of the area.

Officers made several attempts at contacting Fitchett, who they believed was inside the residence.  Although three other subjects exited the residence, Fitchett refused to surrender.  The subjects’ identities are not being released at this time.

During the standoff, Fitchett was observed inside the residence, holding a handgun; however, he did not point the gun towards officers.  S.W.A.T. Officers administered several rounds of gas canisters inside the residence in an attempt to get Fitchett to surrender peacefully, but Fitchett did not exit.

Upon the S.W.A.T. Team’s entry into the residence, members located Fitchett who was deceased by an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Personnel with the Patrol Division, Crime Scene Investigations Section and the Criminal Investigations Division have remained at the location for investigative purposes. Fitchett’s body was transported to Lubbock for an autopsy.

The deceased homicide victims have been identified as 23-year-old Eli Delrio and 20-year-old Raul Rodriguez of San Angelo.  The third shooting victim, a 61-year-old San Angelo man who was reportedly shot in the leg area, is said to be in stable condition.

Investigators are still working to develop information into the circumstances leading up to the fatal shooting.  This is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released when it becomes available.
