San Angelo Coordinator Honored

At LeadingAge Texas’ 55^th Annual Meeting and Trade Show in Austin, Jan Strom, Sales Coordinator at Baptist Retirement Community in San Angelo will be recognized for her outstanding service to residents by receiving the Housing Professional of the Year Award.
In the words of Zig Ziglar: If people like you, they’ll listen to you, but if they trust you, they’ll do business with you. Jan takes time to listen and understand people’s wants and needs for housing as well as for their lifestyle. Jan helps the future residents make that choice with a long-term mindset, helping them understand how their needs may evolve over time. Thus they select a home they are happy with now in a setting that meet their needs for the foreseeable future.

As part of the independent living team,Jan is also highly involved in helping with the services provided to the residents. She attends and helps with the life enrichment events, assists the volunteers with their assignments, and supports the social services staff through her knowledge of residents’ needs and situations. Understanding that people thrive in community, she introduces new residents to current residents with similar interests, and shows them opportunities to become involved in campus activities and efforts.

As a result, many of the new residents quickly become volunteers in the campus auxiliary or with other campus programs, contributing their time, skill, and experience to the betterment of the campus, residents and staff. Jan firmly believes that there is a purpose for every interaction and does not take any relationship for granted. She has a true desire to help others first. Jan’s genuine care for others makes her well loved by not only Baptist Retirement Community residents, but by her coworkers as well.
