Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is actually celebrated on June 19th. It commemorates the date in 1865 when many slaves in Texas learned they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation.  The San Angelo Juneteeth celebration starts on Saturday.  The Juneteenth parade starts at 10:00 am Saturday morning beginning at Carver Learning Center, 103 W. Ninth Street and ending at Marin Luther King Park.

Following the parade there will be a luncheon at MLK Park featuring the music of Manny Campos and the blues committee.  The luncheon is open to the public with all musicians welcome to come and play.

For more information on the parade and luncheon call Aubrey Todd at 325-657-0046.
