Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is actually celebrated on June 19th. It commemorates the date in 1865 when many slaves in Texas learned they had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation.  The San Angelo Juneteeth celebration starts on Saturday.  The Juneteenth parade starts at 10:00 am Saturday morning beginning at Carver Learning Center, 103 W. Ninth Street and ending at Marin Luther King Park.
