O-Negative Blood Donors Needed Now
United Blood Services announced today that O Negative BLOOD TYPE SUPPLY ON HAND is DANGEROUSLY LOW! “We should have 60 pints of O negative on hand – we have 2", according to Linda Grace, Sr. Donor Recruitment Representative. This means that if a major accident were to happen, there would not have the lifesaving blood on hand.
An adequate supply on hand of O Negative blood type is vital to our community! It is used for trauma patients when there is not enough time to perform a blood type test, for premature babies and if you have O Negative blood type, you can ONLY receive O Negative blood.
To compound this situation, the long 4 day Memorial Holiday weekend is upon us. MOST blood shortages occur during or after major holidays as more people are traveling and are outdoors – more accidents happen and the need for blood will go up dramatically - by as much as 100% or more! We are already going into the weekend with an extreme shortage of O Negative blood type.
