This the San Angelo Police Department will host a Memorial Ceremony to honor the memory of Fallen APD Officer, Jaime Padron.  The event will take place outside of the police department, 401 E Beauregard, at 6:00 p.m.  This public is invited and encouraged to attend.
The event takes place on the one-year anniversary of Officer Padron’s murder.

Senior Police Officer Jaime De Luna-Padron was shot and killed in Austin, Texas after responding to a Walmart store to investigate the report of an intoxicated man who was shoplifting at approximately 2:30 a.m.
Upon his arrival, Officer Padron spoke with Walmart employees and then tried to stop the suspect as he attempted to leave the store.  The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was tackled by Officer Padron.  During a struggle, the suspect produced a handgun from his pocket and shot Officer Padron in his vest and neck before firing at store employees.   Officer Padron succumbed to his wound at the scene.

Two Walmart employees tackled and disarmed the suspect, holding him down until additional officers arrived and took him into custody.  The suspect was later identified as Brandon Montgomery Daniel.  Daniel has since been charged with Capital Murder.

Padron was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and served with the Austin Police Department for three years.  He had previously served with the Austin Airport Police Department as part of the emergency management department that consolidated with APD in 2009.  Before that, Padron was with the San Angelo Police Department for 14 years.  He is survived by his two young daughters, siblings, parents, and other extended family members.
