Hunter Hayes took time to make a very special wish come true for a fan who had been diagnosed with terminal cancer.

ABC News reports the 23-year-old country singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist recorded a personalized performance of his song "Invisible" for 22-year-old Erin Catterton, who was battling cancer. Erin's brother, Robert, reached out to Hayes' camp with the request, and the star responded by recording a video from his hotel room in Los Angeles. The fan had attended several of Hayes' shows in the past.

"Hey Erin. This is Hunter," he says in the video above. "I wanted to send you a video. I know that we're scheduled to talk soon-ish, but I also know that you're super busy being what I define as a rockstar ... I want you to know that I'm not the only person that thinks this, that you are one of the most inspiring people I've ever come across."

Hayes apologizes for not having access to any other instrument except his mandolin, then offers up a personal mandolin-and-voice rendition of the song for her to sing along with and keep for her very own. He ends by expressing his prayers, well wishes and hope that they can sing together in person at a show "in the very near future."

Catterton battled cancer off and on for much of her life, her brother tells ABC. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor when she was just four years old, and doctors more recently discovered a tumor in her uterus. She passed away on Wednesday, July 29 at Mandrin Chesapeake Hospice House in Harwood, Md., "with her family and friends by her side," according to her obituary.

A representative for Hayes says that Catterton and her family got the chance to view the video together before she passed away.
