Three dozen historic letters, written by the wife of the post commander in 1878, have returned to Fort Concho.
Fort officials will hold a special briefing to show the letters and tell the full story of their return at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at Officers' Quarters 1 at East Avenue D and South Oakes Street.

Officers' Quarters 1 was the post commander’s home in the fort’s historic time, and it is there that these letters were likely written in the building by Alice Grierson, wife of 10th U. S. Cavalry commander and fort commander Col. Benjamin Grierson, in 1878.

Fort staff members believe these letters represent one of the most significant acquisitions in decades, as they provide personal details and specifics to daily life at the fort.
