On September 11, 2001, Rosey Velez was one of the first responders called to Ground Zero. Now he has the opportunity to return to Ground Zero and meet Pope Francis.

The Pope will visit 9/11 Memorial later this month, and Rosey was selected to meet him out of the thousands of 9/11 Community Members.

Rosey is a retired emergency medical responder, and he's one of the many who still carry injuries and sickness from that day. Travel is very difficult and expensive for him because of those injuries. This trip will give him the opportunity to meet the Pope, visit with former co-workers and friends, and visit the grave sites of those friends who have passed.

Rosey's health is such that he's not sure if he will survive to participate in next year's 9/11 ceremonies, so this could well be the last chance he has to return to New York City.

A GoFundMe page has been created to help with travel expenses, and he's asking for the community's help. Rosey needs to raise $6,000.00 in order to travel with his medical needs. Meeting the Pope is an exciting opportunity for anyone, but for Rosey, who's a Catholic, this will truly be a once in a lifetime opportunity.

We strongly encourage you to donate and help Rosey and his wife make this trip to New York City for Pope Francis' visit to Ground Zero. Again, the donation page is here.
