Summer is in full swing in San Angelo and we are facing restrictions to preserve water during high temperatures and times of drought.  The first place we are asked to cut back on water is for outdoor activities - one of the biggest being care of outdoor gardens or green areas.
How can you keep your yard and garden alive with less water? Texas Water Smart has developed a series of simple conservation tips that can result in major water savings for homeowners. The conservation tips include:

·     Water your yard only in the morning or evening.

·     Adjust sprinklers so only your lawn is watered.

·     Check outdoor faucets, sprinklers and hoses for leaks.

·     Use a thick layer of mulch in your planting beds.

·     Use watering cans for your patio plants.

·     Water your plants deeply, but less frequently.

·     Use drip irrigation or soaker hoses for shrubs and trees.

Texas Water Smart is a public-private coalition that was launched in the spring of 2012 to promote smart water conservation that improves Texas’ environment and nurtures healthy, thriving lawns and gardens while protecting freedom of businesses to operate responsibly. The Texas Water Smart program educates businesses and families about how they can take simple, pro-active steps to conserve water during this current time of drought, and to meet the water needs of our growing population. Over 135 legislative members and over 50 businesses have joined the coalition. To find out more, please visit http://www.TexasWaterSmart.com>.
