On this date in 1919, Edward Styles became the first golfer to play 180 holes in a single day.

He didn't play great that day.  He hacked his way through 10 rounds in 796 strokes with an average of 1 hour and 19 minutes per round.  That figures out to about an 81 per round.

He set the record at the Old York Road Country Club in Philadelphia, Pa.

He got plenty of exercise for his effort, walking 40 miles and changing his shoes three times.  He also, no doubt, needed a shower afterwards.
