It's been a good long while since we've heard anything from the front of M. Night Shyamalan's forthcoming FOX event series drama 'Wayward Pines,' but considering the performance of 'After Earth,' we were a bit understandably hesitant. Now you can check out the first photo of star Matt Dillon channeling 'Wayward Pines' 'Twin Peaks' vibe, with new intel on the series from Shyamalan himself.

Starring Dillon, ‘Iron Man‘ star Terrence Howard, Juliette Lewis, ‘Captain America‘ player Toby Jones, Carla Gugino and Oscar-winner Melissa Leo, based on the novel of the same name by Blake Crouch and written by Chad Hodge, ‘Wayward Pines’ follows Secret Service agent Ethan Burke as he travels to Wayward Pines, Idaho on a mission to find two missing federal agents.

Entertainment Weekly scored the first photo of Shyamalan directing Dillon on the set, which certainly looks straight out of 'Twin Peaks,' though Shyamalan explained his own reason for channeling the series in his move to TV:

When I read Chad’s [Hodge] script I immediately thought: Gosh, I know how to do this. It struck me as having a Twin Peaks-y vibe. David Lynch’s achievement with that show — especially in the pilot — was some super audacious filming. It’s the kind of thing where you have these quirky over-the-top performances that are still resonant. He balanced that line in a way only he could to. So when I read Wayward Pines, I found that same mix of humor I’ve been dying to do.

You can check out the first full photo below before the series debuts later this year, but in the meantime, what do we think? Do you trust Shyamalan adapting someone else's script, or have we been burned too many times before? Give us your 'Wayward Pines' impressions in the comments!
