The filing period to run for San Angelo Mayor and the District 2, 4 and 6 seats on the San Angelo City Council in the May 9 election is open now and will continue through Feb. 27.City Council terms are two years.

Candidates file the necessary paperwork in the City Clerk’s office in Room 210 on the second floor of City Hall, 72 W. College Ave. The office is open from 8 a.m.-noon and from 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Candidate packets containing applications, information and forms about the process for those considering running for City Council are available in the City Clerk’s office or online

Early voting in the May 9 election will be from April 27 to May 1.

To be eligible to vote, San Angelo residents must be registered by April 9.

Voter registration applications are available at the Tom Green County Election/Voter Registration Office on the second floor of the Edd B. Keyes Building, 113 W. Beauregard Ave., and at all three Tom Green County library locations. Applications can also be obtained online on the Elections home page on the county’s website, co.tom-green.tx.us; by mail or by calling 325-659-6541. Completed applications can be returned in person or by mail; mailed applications must be postmarked by April 9. Citizens can also register to vote when renewing their driver’s license in person at a Texas Department of Public Safety office.

Voters and potential candidates can access a map of the City Council districts at cosatx.us/council. Determining which district one lives in can be determined by clicking the GIS map viewer on the same page.
