He hasn’t been on the silver screen in a while, but it appears as if country legend Dwight Yoakam is still doing everything he can to prove that he belongs on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Announced yesterday, Yoakam has signed on to star in Goliath, a forthcoming legal drama from Amazon Studios. Originally titled Trial, the series will also star Yoakam’s Sling Blade co-star Billy Bob Thornton alongside Maria Bello and William Hurt. The series, written by David E. Kelley of Ally McBeal fame, had just enough star power to skip Amazon’s pilot process, in which a single episode of a show is released to viewers who cast their “vote” by watching.

In the show, Yoakam will play the head of an aerospace company where he’ll face off with Thornton, a “down-on-his-luck trial lawyer seeking redemption by battling the rich and powerful,” as USA Today describes the character. The series will feature 10 episodes, and will be directed by Madam Secretary’s David Semel.

It would appear that Yoakam has been busy in Hollywood. Last year, he signed on to co-produce a Fox series called Belles and Whistles with Jack Black. The single-camera half-hour comedy will center around a Silicon Valley tech expat who moves his family to Nashville to become a country music star. The show will be Yoakam’s first project as a producer.

No release date has yet been set for Belles and Whistles, but you can look for Goliath to land this fall.
