The family and loves ones of a young Carrie Underwood fan from Lafayette, La., who was killed in a car crash in 2016 are receiving some justice.

Albert Kirk Sampy was sentenced to 30 years in prison for vehicular homicide and 15 years for a conviction on negligent injury charges following a deadly car crash that killed 10-year-old Isley Thibodeaux and left her mother Misty with serious injuries. The accident took place just minutes after they left Underwood’s concert at the Cajundome in Louisiana in April of 2016, the Daily Advertiser reports.

Sampy was reportedly intoxicated when he caused the head-on collision by swerving across the center line on the road. Isley was in fifth grade at St. Bernard School at the time of the accident.

Carrie Made the List, But Who’s No. 1?

“She is a girl who will be remembered as hilarious, beautiful, full of joy and love, independent and always knew what she wanted,” her family shared in her obituary.

The country star heard the tragic news and reached out to the family to offer support following the devastating crash. In addition to sending a large bouquet of flowers to Isley’s funeral and a personalized note to the family, she also dedicated her win for Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2016 American Country Countdown Awards to the young fan.

Sampy has a long string of prior criminal convictions include armed robbery, simple robbery, theft, resisting arrest, domestic abuse and disturbing the peace, dating all the way back to 1999.
