Pop singer Demi Lovato has come a long way since her early days acting on the Disney channel, and before that, ‘Barney and Friends.’ Now, the bombshell brunette is rising through pop charts as a teen music sensation, but Lovato isn’t going to be pigeonholed into one type of music. On Tuesday (July 17) at her show in San Jose, the 19-year-old singer tried her hand at a little country twang, breaking out a gorgeous version of Lady Antebellum‘s ‘American Honey.’

After playing several of her own uptempo tunes, Lovato took a seat to prepare the audience for a more serious song. Her guitarist strummed a few notes on his acoustic guitar, and Lovato launched into a beautiful rendition of Lady A’s third No. 1 song. Fans of the ‘This Is Me’ hitmaker hooted and hollered as soon as Lovato sang the first few words, clearly recognizing what could be considered a cross-genre hit.

This isn’t the first time that the young songstress has given country music a go. In December, the self-professed country fan told her fans that she’d written a country song of her own, though that hasn’t yet made it to radio. Perhaps by breaking out more covers like this Lady Antebellum number, 19-year-old Lovato can further prove her crossover capabilities.

This fall, she’ll put her vast musical prowess on a national stage when she takes on the role of a judge on ‘X Factor.’
