Cyndi Lauper is taking a detour with her upcoming album, which includes covers of country tunes from the '40s, '50s and '60s, and soon after, she will perform those tunes on one of the most historic stages in country history: the Ryman Auditorium.

Lauper is kicking off her Detour Tour at the iconic Nashville venue May 9, 2016, just three days after the album release.

“There’s something so very magical about the Ryman and all the rich history there. Just to think it’s the same stage where Wanda Jackson and Patsy Cline performed so long ago and here I am singing songs they made famous on this record — it’s such an honor,” the pop legend says.

Though Lauper isn’t known for her country style, she says the genre has always been close to her heart.

“When I was a really young kid, country music was pop music, so this is what we grew up listening to,” she remembers. “These songs are part of some of my earliest memories, so it has been an absolute thrill to revisit them.”

Lauper's international Detour Tour will run through July 11, finishing up in Paris. The full list of dates is below, with select performances including fellow '80s icon Boy George.

The pink-haired “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” singer is a Grammy, Tony and Emmy award winner and continues to intrigue longtime fans and gain new ones, even decades into her career. Her new record includes 12 classic country tunes with guest appearances from artists like Emmylou Harris, Jewel, Alison Krauss and Willie Nelson. The album is out May 6, but is available for pre-order now.
