San Angelo City offices will be closed Monday, Nov. 12, in observance of Veterans Day.

Garbage collection will not be affected for customers whose refuse is normally collected on Mondays. Landfill hours also will remain unchanged.

Veterans Day is observed on Nov. 11 to honor armed services veterans. Because the holiday falls on a Sunday this year, many governmental offices – including the City’s – will be closed the following day. All City offices will reopen at8 a.m.Tuesday, Nov. 13.

FortConchowill be open during the holiday weekend from9 a.m.-5 p.m.on Nov. 9-10 and from1 p.m.-5 p.m.Nov. 11. On Monday, Nov. 12, the fort will be open for self-guided tours from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., as will itsVisitorsCenter, where Christmas at Old Fort Concho tickets will be available for sale.

Prior to its involvement in a downtown Veterans Day parade on Saturday, Nov. 10, the Fort Concho Cavalry (Company D, 4th Regiment Memorial) will gather about 8:30 a.m. at the Medal of Honor recipients area next to the Headquarters Building. A trooper will read the poem “Fiddler’s Green,” a canteen of water will be poured over each site, the name of each Medal of Honor recipient will be read, and a trooper will place an American flag at the stone, step back and salute.
