Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake have teamed up for two very well-received collaborations, and they might not be done yet.

In an interview with Billboard during the 2018 CMA Music Festival in Nashville, Stapleton confirmed that he's been in touch with Timberlake about the possibility of future collaborations.

“We were talking about something earlier today,” Stapleton said before taking the stage on Saturday night (June 9) at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. “We just have fun. It looks like the odd couple to most people, but we have a lot of the same musical influences — old R&B and soul music and things like that. We just enjoy hanging out.”

Stapleton was a critically respected but little-known country artist with his first solo album, Traveller, recently in release when he and Timberlake first collaborated during the 2015 CMA Awards. They paired for an incendiary, show-stopping performance of "Tennessee Whiskey" and "Drink You Away" that quickly went viral, launching Stapleton into overnight superstardom.

Stapleton also helped Timberlake out on "Say Something" from Timberlake's most recent album, Man of the Woods. While it's likely they will collaborate again, he says they haven't talked specifically about the possibility of recording an entire album together. He reflects that "there will probably always be music being made, whether it’s writing or talking about music or playing music for each other."

"We’re both at a phase in our life where we want to have fun playing music," Stapleton adds. "That’s why it makes sense."
