A suspected drunk driver is jailed after crashing into a utility pole and a single vehicle crash causes extensive damage to a barrier on Houston Harte.
A Wednesday afternoon single vehicle crash that damaged over one-thousand feet of the traffic barrier near the 3100 block of the West Houston Harte Expressway appears to be the result of a medical complication.

Police were dispatched to the area for the report of a crash involving a 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser.  San Angelo Fire Department Medics also responded.  The driver of the Cruiser, a 53-year-old San Angelo woman, was transport to Shannon Medical Center by ambulance.

Police spoke with witnesses who said they observed the victim traveling westbound in the outside lane when her vehicle began to drift towards the median and collide with the stretch of barrier.  Witnesses who came to the driver’s aid told police the woman was unconscious when they found her.

It was determined that the driver may have experienced some type of medical complication just prior to her crash.  The woman reportedly did not suffer any injuries during the crash and is said to be in stable condition.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

A 34-year-old San Angelo man was arrested early Wednesday morning on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated after crashing into a utility pole in east San Angelo.

A San Angelo Police Officer who was driving along Rio Concho Drive near Louis Drive at the end of his shift observed a black pickup truck off the roadway that appeared to have crashed into a utility pole.

Additional officers were called to the scene to assist and it was determined that the driver, who did not report any injuries from the crash, was suspected of being under the influence of an intoxicant.  Police believe the driver was eastbound on Rio Concho Drive when his 2012 Toyota Tundra left the roadway and jumped the curb before colliding with the utility pole.  The vehicle came to rest approximately 115 feet from the initial collision.  The driver was identified as Mario Luna (DOB 09-30-79).

Luna was issued a Citation for Crossing a Physical Barrier Curb and arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.  He was transported to the Tom Green County Jail.

A male passenger, a 31-year-old San Angelo resident, was reportedly uninjured.
