‘Teens in the Driver Seat’ Recognizes Two Students at Bronte High School

Student leaders from the Bronte High School have been recognized by Teens in the Driver Seat® (TDS) for their achievements in their Driving the Message Contest. Baily Torres and Sarah Allen won the Teen Choice Award in the poster category and a $250 prize. This year’s contest attracted 120 posters, 16 t-shirt designs and a record-breaking number of 51 video entries. Congratulations for making an impact!

The Driving the Message Contest encourages students to speak up about driver safety and educate their peers with multiple types of positive messaging and outreach about the dangers of teen driving. The contest has three categories — poster, video and t-shirt. In addition to recognition and cash prizes for their school, the entries will be available for school use on the TDS website. TDS Director Russell Henk said,

Teens in the Driver Seat believes that young drivers are more effective at communicating to their peers than anyone else. This contest gives teens a creative way to engage their peers in a positive way.

Teens in the Driver Seat® started in 2002, is a peer-to-peer safety program that educates teens about the top five dangers of teen driving – driving at night; speeding and street racing; distractions, such as cell phones and teen passengers; not wearing a seat belt; and alcohol/drug use. Thanks to funding from the Texas Department of Transportation and State Farm, program resources and technical support are available at no cost to schools in Texas.
