Colonel Charles E. Powell will be honored as this year’s Texas Southwest Council, Boy Scouts of America’s Distinguished Citizen of the Year.

Colonel Powell joins:  Dolph Briscoe, O.C. Fisher, Mark McLaughlin, Robert Junell, Marilyn Aboussie, James Powell, Jack Graves, Stanley and Deanna Mayfield, James Hindman, Mike Conaway, Ed & Billye Mayer, Ralph & Bobby Lou Mayer, Richard & Betty Mayer, Robert Mayer, Norman & Doris Rousselot, and General Gerald Prather as a TSWC Distinguished Citizen honoree.

Colonel Powell was Commander’ of the 3480th Technical Training Wing, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas until his retirement in  August 1984.

Colonel Charles Powell was born on May 7, 1931 in Nashville, Arkansas.  He graduated from Nashville High School in 1949 and attended Arkansas College, Batesville.  In July 1950 Colonel Powell entered the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland and graduated in June 1954 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Engineering.

Colonel Powell is married to JoAnne McAdams.  They have one daughter, Teressa Anne, one Grandson, Colin Powell McKinney and one Granddaughter, Caitlin Brooke Canady.

Mrs. JoAnne Powell is Congressman Mike Conaway’s Regional Director in San Angelo.  Congressman Conaway will be the emcee of the distinguished citizen dinner on May 7th beginning at 7:00 PM at Bentwood Country Club.  Ticket price is $100 and sponsorships are still available.
