Birthdays for Sunday
Stand by for a list of our listeners celebrating on this August 3rd, but first get ready to spit those seeds and enjoy this day for another reason.
It's National Watermelon Day!
This summertime fruit is enjoyed by many of us, and fact is, some of the best tasting ones are grown right here in the Concho Valley.
There's nothing quite like an ice cold slice of watermelon a warm summer day. It's refreshing. The reason is watermelon is 92% water. It's always a favorite treat at picnics and fairs.
Speaking of fairs, they usually have a competition for the largest watermelon grown and award prizes to the winner each year. According to the Guinness Book of World Records the biggest watermelon weighed in at 262 pounds. That's a lot of slices.
Don't forget the other form of competition this fruit has inspired. The always fun, seed spitting contest. Of course, it doesn't work well with the seedless variety of melons.
So, why not take some time to enjoy a cold slice, of this sweet and tasty, large fruit, here on National watermelon Day.
Concho Valley birthdays include:
