Congratulations if you are celebrating a birthday today.  You share this date with country artist, Scotty McCreery, born in Garner, North Carolina in 1993.  Scotty won "American Idol" in 2011 and within months released his debut album, "Clear As Day".  He's 21 today.  It's Fire Prevention Day!

The story goes that, on October 9th, in 1871, Mrs. O'Leary was milking a cow in her barn, when the cow kicked over a lamp and started the Great Chicago Fire.  That fire burned for over 27 hours.  When it was finally extinguished, more that 300 people were dead, 100,000 people were left homeless and more than 17,000 structures had been destroyed.

One good thing came out of the Great Chicago Fire.  That was the fact that, it sparked major efforts in fire prevention.  40 years later, the Fire Marshall's Association of North America (FMANA) held the very first Fire Prevention Day.

This is a good time to remember EDITH, which stands for "Exit Drills In The Home", and perhaps have a family practice drill today.  You never know, when it might come in handy.
