Birthdays For October 8th + Country Music History

He sings lead for The Kentucky HeadHunters, twice named Vocal Group of the Year by the Country Music Association, before leaving the band in 1992 to form Brother Phelps. Happy 63rd, Ricky Lee!

1957- Jerry Lee Lewis records "Great Balls Of Fire" at the Sun Recording Studio in Memphis.

1984- Anne Murray is the only double-winner in the 18th annual Country Music Association awards, held at Nashville's Grand Ole Opry House. Murray becomes the first woman to win Album of the Year, for "A Little Good News," while the title track wins Single of the Year.

2002-Trace Adkins suffers a hairline sternum fracture and bruises when he's pinned under a tractor in a freak accident while building a gravel road on his property in Rutherford County, Tennessee. He's immediately hospitalized and cancels two Texas concerts.
