Today In History With Charley Pride + National Cat Day

Did you know that before Charley Pride became a country music star, he was a baseball player. Fifty-eight (58) years ago today, Charley pitched four innings of shutout ball, as the Negro League All-Stars beat the Major League All-Stars, including Willie Mays and Hank Aaron, on a final score of 4-2.   National Cat Day -- but, we all know every day is Cat Day for your feline friends.

This special day is sponsored by the Animal Miracle Foundation and was created by Pet Lifestyle Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige.  Since it was first celebrated in 2005, it has helped save the lives of over one million cats.

The purpose of this day is to help the public to recognize the number of cats that need to be rescued.  It also should encourage cat lovers everywhere, to celebrate the cats in their lives and better appreciate the unconditional love and companionship that they bestow upon them.
