If you have a birthday today, congratulations!  You just happen to share this date with the man responsible for the invention of the saxophone.  Adophe Sax, a Belgian instrument maker was born in 1814.  So, the reason for celebrating this event, on this date, should be very apparent.    It's National Saxophone Day!

The Saxophone is a classical woodwind instrument.  It is pretty much a main stay, in jazz bands, symphonic bands, marching bands and country artist's such as Merle Haggard and Bob Wills, have even been known to use it in their recordings and in live concerts.

The first one, Adophe Sax invented, was a Bass Saxophone, around 1880.  Later, he came up with 7 more, including the Sopranino, the Soprano, the Alto, The Tenor, the Baritone, the Contrabass and the Subcontrabass.

It wasn't until 2004 that someone else invented, the Soprillo Saxophone, the smallest of them all.

Some of the most famous sax players, of all time include:  John Coltrane, Stan Getz, Jimmy Dorsey, Charlie "The Bird" Parker, Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, and Kenny G.

And now you can better understand, why we celebrate this day.

NOW LET'S P-A-R-T-Y!!!
