If today happens to be your birthday, congratulations! There is also a country music star celebrating along with you. Roy Clark, born in Meherrin, Virginia, in 1933. The co-host of "Hee Haw," his vocal and instrumental skills bring him hits from 1963-1976, plus the CMA's Entertainer of the Year award and membership in the Country Music Hall of Fame. Happy 82nd, Roy!
This Is Rubber Eraser Day!
Make no mistake, this day celebrates the invention of the rubber eraser. Everyone makes mistakes. When we do, it's nice to know that we can use that little plug of rubber at the top of our pencil to correct those mistakes. Imagine how messy our paperwork would be without it.
There are two men to thank for erasers. Joseph Priestley discovered the eraser in 1770, using pieces of rubber imported from Brazil. Then in 1858, Hyman Lipman of Philadelphia, Pa., patented the pencil with an eraser at the end.
A thought for this special day: To err is human, an eraser is divine!
