Birthdays And Anniversaries For September 30th + It’s National Chewing Gum Day

If it's your birthday today, congratulations.  You are celebrating with Eddie Montgomery, born in Lancaster, Kentucky, in 1963.  Eddie teamed up with Troy Gentry,  to form Montgomery - Gentry.  In 2000, they won the Vocal Duo of the Year award from the Country Music Association and they joined the Grand Ole Opry, in 2009. 

It's National Chewing Gum Day!

Did You Know?  Us humans have been chewing gum for over 5,000 years.  Various forms have existed since the Neolithic period.  Back then, it was thought to have antiseptic properties and medicinal advantages.

Early cultures chewed gum from the resin of mastic trees, plants, grasses and other resins.

John B. Curtis developed and sold the first commercial chewing gum, called "The State of Maine Pure Spruce Gum", in 1848.

A gum made from paraffin wax was developed around 1850, that surpassed the spruce gum in sales and popularity.

An early patent for chewing gum was filed by William Semple, in December of 1869.
