Birthdays And Anniversaries For September 26th + It’s Johnny Appleseed Day

If it's your birthday today, congratulations.  You share this date with Martin Robinson, who was born in Glendale, Arizona, in 1925.  For show biz purposes, he later changed his name to Marty Robbins and developed a smooth sound of recording not only country, but also mixing in some pop crossover material and of course his famous  western story songs, such as, "El Paso".   His career spanned the 50s, all the way through the 80s and ultimately landed him in the Country Music Hall of Fame.  It's Johnny Appleseed Day!

John Chapman a.k.a "Johnny Appleseed", was born September 26th, 1774.  He was a pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees to a large part of America, including what is now Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and the northern portion of present day West Virginia.

As a settler, he followed the movement west and as he traveled he planted apple trees along the way.  He was also a very religious man and was also known to preach as he traveled.  With every apple tree he planted the legend of "Johnny Appleseed" grew.

According stories handed down through time, he led a very simple life and wanted little.  He hardly ever accepted money and most of the time donated any money he received. What a guy!

To celebrate the life of this great American today, why not snack on some apples, enjoy some applesauce or perhaps some apple pie for dessert.  Better yet, go out and plant an apple tree or two.
