This is a day of remembrance and hope for the speedy and safe return of American Prisoners of War, and those still Missing in Action.  It also seeks the return of the remains of our fallen service men and women.

The first commemoration of this day was on July 18, 1979, as a result of resolutions passed by the U.S. Congress.  In 1986, The National League of Families proposed the 3rd Friday in September as a day to remember and recognize POW/MIAs.  This date was selected, as it is not associated with any wars.

This is one of six days in the year that Federal Law requires the POW/MIA Flag to be flown at all places designated by the U.S. Secretary of Defense.

Please say a prayer today, for all of our POWs and MIAs.
