Did you know C.A. Swanson & Sons, introduced this new product called "TV Dinner", in 1953?  This prepackaged meal changed the food industry forever!

Swanson's first TV Dinner was a Thanksgiving meal of turkey, cornbread dressing, peas and sweet potatoes.  It came in an aluminum tray with each food in it's own compartment.  It needed to be heated in an oven and took about 25 minutes to cook.  The original TV Dinners sold for 98 cents.  Swanson's production estimate for the first year was 5,000 dinners, however they exceeded that amount and ended up selling more than 10 million.

In 1960, Swanson added a desert to each dinner in a new 4-compartment tray.

In 1962, Swanson stopped using the name "TV Dinner", but here in the United States the term is still used for almost any prepackaged dinner that is bought frozen from a store and heated up at home.

In 1986, the original Swanson TV Dinner tray was inducted into the Museum of American History, by the Smithsonian Institute.
