Labor day was first celebrated in New York City in 1882.  This day started out a a state holiday but gained so much popularity it was voted a national holiday by the U.S. Congress in 1894.

For some, Labor Day signals the end of summer and is spent as a vacation weekend by lots of folks.

This day is dedicated in honor of the worker and is sometimes referred to as the "workingman's or workingwoman's holiday".  Whether you work inside or outside of the home, union or non-union, big company, small companies, or government, as long as you work somewhere at something this holiday is for you.

It's also a great way to celebrate the labor movement, which gave us all improved working conditions and fair treatment from our employers and the government.

Now you hopefully know a little more about the reason we celebrate National Labor Day.
