Birthdays And Anniversaries For December 5th + It’s Repeal Day

If you are celebrating your birthday on this Finally Friday, congratulations.  You share this date with Gary Herzberg, born in 1967, in Montebello, California.  Today, we know him better under his stage name, Gary Allan.  The scratchy-voiced singer has had a slew of country hits including, "Smoke Rings In The Dark", "Watching Airplanes" and "Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)".  Happy 47th, Gary!  It's Repeal Day!

This day commemorates the repeal of the 18th Amendment, on December 5th, 1933.  What a day that must have been!  Americans were, once more, free to buy, sell and consume alcoholic beverages.  Let's All drink to that!

The 14 year ban on alcohol, from 1919 until 1933, did little to improve social conditions in our country, or to deter crime.  Actually, crime increased as racketeers got into the business of making and sell bootleg alcohol.  More and more citizens and groups sought it's repeal.

Finally, Congress passed the 21st Amendment, that repealed the 18th Amendment and "Happy Times Were Here Again"!!
