Birthdays And Anniversaries For April 9th + Winston Churchill Day
If this is your birthday, congratulations! You share the same date as two country music artists. Carl Perkins, born in Tiptonville, Tennessee, in 1932. He became a rockabilly pioneer through his single "Blue Suede Shoes." He also writes Johnny Cash's "Daddy Sang Bass," Patsy Cline's "So Wrong" and The Judds' "Let Me Tell You About Love". Also born on this date, Singer/songwriter Hal Ketchum, in Greenwich, New York, in 1953. He joins the Grand Ole Opry in 1994 on the back of such melodic singles as "Small Town Saturday Night," "Past The Point Of Rescue" and "Sure Love". Happy 62nd, Hal!
This Is Winston Churchill Day!
On this date in 1963, Winston Churchill, was made an honorary US citizen. In fact he became the very first person to become an honorary citizen. He was given this honor posthumously. There have only been 6 people (two are a married couple who received it jointly) to be accorded this stature.
What does it take to become an honorary US citizen? You have to have made extraordinary accomplishments or contributions in your life. And, then a law must be drafted and voted upon by the U.S. Senate.
Why not celebrate today by reading and learning about Winston Churchill, Brittain's Prime Minister during World War II.
