Angelo State University’s Visual and Performing Arts Department will host an appearance by Dr. Matthew Bishop, associate professor of guitar at Laredo Community College, on Monday, Nov. 25, in the Carr Education-Fine Arts (EFA) Building, 2602 Dena Drive.
Bishop will discuss the evolution of the guitar and perform music from around the world at 4 p.m. in the EFA Building’s Eldon Black Recital Hall.  The program, which is open free to the public, will include American jazz, ancient songs from Japan and Scotland, folk music from Africa and an Argentinean tango.

Bishop holds degrees in guitar performance and musicology from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and the University of Wisconsin.  He has performed, given master classes and lectured across the U.S. on both the guitar and lute.  He has been featured on public radio’s “Live from the Chazen” and has written for Soundboard, the official magazine of the Guitar Foundation of America.
