ASU Best For Vets Business School

Angelo State University’s College of Business has been named one of the nation’s 64 Best Business Schools for Veterans by the Military Times organization in its Best for Vets: Business Schools 2014 rankings.
The ASU College of Business is ranked No. 17 out of 64 business schools on the list and is one of seven business schools in Texas to earn the “Best for Vets” designation.  The Military Times comprises the Air Force Times, Army Times, Marine Corps Times and Navy Times newspapers, their corresponding websites and the Military Times EDGE magazine.  Its “Best for Vets: Business Schools” rankings are based on an 80-question survey analysis of a school’s offerings for military veterans.

“As with all of the ‘Best for Vets’ rankings, Best for Vets: Business Schools  is an editorially independent news project that evaluates the many factors that make an institution a good fit for military veterans,” said Amanda Miller, editor of Military Times EDGE.

The rankings focus on culture and curriculum and factor in academic quality, outcomes and policies; school culture; student support; and cost.

“While there are some challenges, this is a segment of students who are ready to be serious in pursuit of their education, and professional fields are often high on their preferred list,” said Dr. Corbett Gaulden Jr., College of Business dean.  “Veteran students are also likely to persist to graduation.  Their personal discipline and focus are generally excellent.”

“With the downsizing of the armed forces,” he continued, “ASU should be in excellent position to attract a significant number of veteran students, both locally and outside West Texas.  They can be very involved in building and maintaining an atmosphere of excellence at the university.  We welcome them to the College of Business, where we work at educating leaders.”

ASU President Brian J. May said, “As a university, we have always known the importance of providing quality academic programs and specialized support services for our veterans.  That is particularly true in the College of Business, where many of the academic leaders are veterans and we have long had a strong Air Force ROTC program.  We are pleased to see the entire College of Business faculty and staff receive the ‘Best for Vets’ recognition for their efforts, and it also shines a positive light on the entire Angelo State campus community.”

In November 2013, ASU received its first Military Times “Best for Vets” designation as an overall institution when it was named one of the nation’s 120 Best Colleges for Veterans.  That followed five straight years of being named a “Military Friendly School” by G.I. Jobs magazine.

Other Texas universities with business schools on this year’s “Best for Vets” list are University of the Incarnate Word, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University, University of Texas at Arlington, University of Texas at Dallas and Dallas Baptist University.
