The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is designed to show attendees the connections between art and science in a fun family setting. With an overall theme of “You Can’t Create Art Without Science,” activities will include science and art projects in SAMFA’s meeting room and education studio, including creating DNA necklaces.

Participants can also enjoy chemistry magic shows at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., as well as an Art Bot workshop at noon. A cool, science-related “snacktivity” will be provided.

Special guests BioRad will work with families to create “Genes in a Bottle Amulets.” The DNA extraction experiment makes biology personal by introducing students and their parents to molecular biology using their own DNA. Participants will use real laboratory equipment to extract DNA from their cheek cells and then precipitate and bottle it in a keepsake amulet.

ASU student groups participating in the event are the American Chemical Society, Tri-Beta national biology honor society, Geologic Exposition Organization (GEO) and Society of Physics Students. Members of the Howard College STEM Club and TAME: Art Engineers will also take part.
