SAPD Press Release 4:00 pm - At about 9:38AM, the San Angelo Police Department along with the San Angelo Fire Department responded to the Unit block of East 40th Street in regards to a gunshot victim.

Upon arrival, officers encountered an armed 53-year-old male suspect in the front yard of this location and officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect for an undetermined amount of time. The subject refused to comply with orders to drop the weapon and shots were fired.

The subject is being treated at Shannon Medical Center. No one else was injured in the incident.

Due to the proximity of the scene in relation to Goliad Elementary School, the school was placed in a “lockdown” state for a time. After the scene was secure and the subject was in custody, the lockdown was lifted.

This incident is currently being investigated as an officer-involved shooting. At this time Texas Ranger Philip Kemp, the department's Professional Standards Division, Criminal Investigations Division, and CSI are all on scene investigating. It is an ongoing investigation and more information will be released at a later time.
